Wrexham Leading Scottish Giants To Sign West Ham Midfielder

Wrexham are reportedly leading Scottish giants Rangers to sign West Ham midfielder Andy Irving, according to Pete O’Rourke.

The 25-year-old midfielder looks to be heading out of the London Stadium after only 11 appearances for the Hammers last, with a move to the STōK Racecourse looking closer.

A Unusual Career Path?

A product of the Hearts academy, Irving made his senior debut in 2018. In that time he experienced loan spells at Berwick Rangers in 2017-18 and Falkirk in 2018-19. Then becoming a regular at Tynecastle in 2020/21 Scottish Championship season, in which he helped win the itle, with 2 goals and 7 assists.

In 2021, he joined German 3. Liga side Türkgücü München after the expiration of his contract at Hearts. Making 24 appearances, he quickly adapted despite the club’s financial collapse. His real breakout came at SK Austria Klagenfurt in the Austrian Bundesliga from 2022–2024, where he scored 6 goals and 34 appearances in his first season

Irving was then signed by West Ham in September 2023 for £1.5m as part of a feeder partnership with Klagenfurt, Irving was loaned back immediately. In his second season scored 10 goals in 30 assists. This period showcased his ability to drive the team forward and dictate the play, earning him the nickname “Portobello Pirlo”

He integrated into the first team at the London Stadium in summer 2024, debuting in a 3-0 Premier League loss to Chelsea on September 21, 2024. By the end of last season, he slowly began a regular string of games; he made 11 appearances, starting once in a 2-1 defeat to Chelsea in February. His stats included 90% pass accuracy and chance creation.

During his career, Irving has represented his native Scotland and under-14,16,17,19 and 21 levels, where he impressed. He earned his first senior international call-up in October last year for their Nations League games against Croatia and Portugal. This was a surprise inclusion into Steve Clarke’s side, with the manager praising his journey to this moment as different and raising his work ethic and commitment. Irving has continued to feature in Scotland’s squad and can be a real contender to start more games.

Writer’s View

Wrexham’s reported £3.5 million move for West Ham’s Andy Irving could add a combative and powerful player to their already stacked Championship midfield. The 25-year-old will be looking to beat players like George Dobson and new signing Lewis O’Brien.

Most importantly Irving will be looking for regular game time to secure his Scotland spot, where he debuted in June 2025. Praised by Steve Clarke for his unique journey, Irving could shine for Wrexham’s promotion push and Scotland’s 2026 World Cup hopes, making this deal a bold step for both.
