Salford City Sanction Player Exit: 20-Year-Old Will Return

Welling United have announced the signing of midfielder Jez Davies on loan from Salford City, adding another talented player to their squad for the remainder of the season.

The 20-year-old arrives at Park View Road after several loan spells across lower league clubs, including National League North side Marine and National League club Ebbsfleet United.

Davies started his career in the academy of Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur before making the move to Championship side Burnley in December 2022. Following a brief stint at Burnley, where he was with the club for 18 months, Davies joined Salford City in January 2024, marking the start of his senior career. His debut came in March 2024, as he made a late appearance in a 3-1 victory over Morecambe.

Previous Loan Spells and Move to Welling

Davies’ journey included several loan moves this season, first to Marine and then to Ebbsfleet United, where he made six appearances. Despite a tough start at Ebbsfleet, where he was sent off on debut, he has gained valuable experience, which now sees him join Welling United for the final months of the campaign.

“We’re pleased to bring Jez into the fold,” said caretaker manager Brian Statham. “He’s proven his ability in multiple loan spells and will add energy and creativity to our midfield as we look to finish the season strongly.”

The signing comes as Welling United look to improve their squad depth ahead of the closing stages of the season. With the team fighting for a solid finish, the addition of a player like Davies is expected to bring an additional spark to the midfield.

The loan move for Jez Davies could prove to be a smart decision by Welling United as they bolster their midfield with a young, versatile player who has already gained valuable experience at multiple clubs. His arrival gives the team another option in the centre of the park, and his development at Salford and through his previous loan spells makes him an exciting addition to the squad. How he adapts to life at Park View Road could make all the difference as Welling push for a strong end to the season.
