Salford City Agree Deal To Sign Wycombe Wanderers Striker

Salford City have reportedly agreed a deal to sign Wycombe Wanderers striker Daniel Udoh on a permanent deal, as revealed by Pete O’Rourke.

The 29-year-old was an ever-present in the Chairboy’s squad last season, however only scored 9 goals in 51 appearances in all competitions

A Proven Goalscorer

Born in Lagos, Nigeria. Udoh moved to England aged only nine and joined Luton Town’s development squad. He later entered Stevenage’s Academy but was released due to commitments with his native Nigeria’s under-17 team.

Udoh signed a non-contract agreement with Kidderminster Harriers, leading to a series of loans throughout non-league football, notably at Worcester City, Wingate & Finchley, North Greenford United, and Grays Athletic. Limited playtime led him to Hoddesdon Town, followed by a one-year contract with Ilkeston in 2015 after a successful trial with the club.

In 2016, Udoh joined Crewe Alexandra on his first contract in the EFL, debuting against Bradford City and scoring his first senior goal against Accrington Stanley. Loan spells at Solihull Moors, Halesowen Town, Chester, and Leamington followed, but Crewe did not renew his contract in 2018 after only one goal across two seasons.

Udoh excelled at AFC Telford United in 2018 where he scored 19 goals in the National League North. This led to a move back to the EFL to Shrewsbury Town in 2019, where he scored 38 goals in 181 appearances, including a notable FA Cup goal against Liverpool in a game in 2022.

In July last year, Udoh joined Wycombe Wanderers on a free transfer, scoring eight goals in 43 League One appearances, often competing with Richard Kone who has recently departed the club to join Queens Park Rangers.

His current Transfermarkt valuation is €350,000, reflecting his consistent third-tier performances and contract until June 2027.

How Might He Fit In?

If Salford City’s agreement is around the Transfermarkt valuation of €350,000 this could be a major scalp for League Two. At Salford, a League Two side who will be hoping to push for promotion, Udoh’s physicality, aerial ability, and high work rate could make him a focal point in attack, complementing their style. Service from new signings like Jorge Grant, a creative midfielder with a proven track record, could enhance Udoh’s goal-scoring output, boosting Salford’s promotion efforts under high-profile ownership.

Writer’s View

Daniel Udoh’s transfer to Salford City is a bold statement for the League Two club, backed by the Class of ’92 and new investors. His nine goals in 51 appearances for Wycombe last season showcased his ability to find the net, making his move to the fourth tier surprising. For Salford, under ambitious ownership, Udoh’s signing signals intent to climb the football pyramid.
