QPR Told to Hold Fire on Striker Decision as Leyton Orient Star Shines

Queens Park Rangers have been advised to delay any final call on striker Charlie Kelman’s long-term future despite the forward’s prolific form on loan at Leyton Orient.

The 23-year-old has reignited his career in League One, but doubts remain over whether he is ready to take the next step at Loftus Road. Kelman has scored 18 times this season and added four assists in a campaign that has thrust him into the spotlight.

Once a promising youth signing from Southend United, the striker has struggled for a breakthrough at QPR, instead embarking on a series of loan spells across the EFL. But his performances with play-off chasing Orient have reignited interest in his potential.

“He Has Potential – But Be Patient”

Speaking to Football League World, pundit David Prutton urged the club to resist making any knee-jerk decisions. He suggested Kelman’s resurgence should be viewed as a promising sign, but also warned against assuming this form will instantly translate to Championship success.

“Kelman’s an intriguing one as he’s been around the EFL for a while now and it’s only really been this season that he’s started to take off. You get that with strikers sometimes though.

“You’ve got to wait and see whether this purple patch can be sustainable… He has potential, but a bit of patience will be needed for what they’ve seen so far.”

With his contract length undisclosed, speculation continues over whether QPR are ready to give Kelman a true run in the first team under Marti Cifuentes. The manager himself has acknowledged the player’s growth during his current spell, but remained non-committal about future plans.

“When we send any player on loan the main target is that they can play, can develop and progress… Hopefully he will finish the season very strongly, and we will decide what’s the next step with him.”

Kelman, once capped at youth level for the United States, has had to rebuild his career one step at a time. With five loan spells under his belt and no consistent run at QPR, this summer is shaping up to be a defining moment. Either he is rewarded with the trust of a first-team role or given the freedom to move on permanently in search of consistency and stability.

The striker’s recent form makes him a marketable asset, and should QPR look to sell, there would likely be a number of League One and lower Championship suitors ready to snap him up.

Charlie Kelman has shown that perseverance can pay off—but it’s now QPR’s turn to show they believe in his journey. While a cautious approach makes sense, the club cannot afford to let a flourishing talent drift without clarity. If Cifuentes believes Kelman’s profile fits the evolving QPR system, the time for a real opportunity is now. Otherwise, allowing the striker to move permanently may be the fairest outcome for all parties.
