Paul Heckingbottom has made it clear that Preston North End will undergo significant changes in the summer transfer window as they aim to strengthen for the future.
The manager, speaking after a 2-0 loss to Derby County, outlined his plans to add much-needed depth to the squad, focusing on bringing in “1v1 players” who can make a difference in tight games.

If we can bring in players who can develop over time and help us, it’ll be worth it.”
The manager also touched on the club’s need for players who can contribute immediately in specific situations. “When teams sit back against us, we need players who can open them up with their skill and creativity. I’d love to have players who can play in tight spaces, hold the ball under pressure, and combine with teammates quickly. That’s the kind of player we need to bring in.”
Despite the challenges ahead, Heckingbottom remains optimistic about the club’s ability to improve. “We’ve got a good group of players who work hard, and we can’t lose that mentality,” he said. “But we know we need to add to it in key areas, particularly up front. The summer will be crucial for us to get the right signings and build on what we’ve got.”
The club’s aim is clear: to add quality in key positions, especially in attack, while maintaining the work ethic and team spirit that has defined Preston’s season. The task now is to make the right moves in the transfer market to ensure that next season sees significant improvements.
