Plymouth Argyle Face Setback as Muhamed Tijani Sidelined Until New Year

Plymouth Argyle’s Muhamed Tijani is sidelined with a torn hamstring until the New Year, a blow to the club’s attacking options during a challenging Championship season.

Tijani will be out of action until the New Year due to a hamstring injury, according to Pilgrims manager Wayne Rooney. The 24-year-old suffered the injury in the team’s narrow 1-0 defeat to Burnley, leaving Argyle without one of their key attacking options.

Tijani’s injury occurred during the midweek clash at Turf Moor, a match in which Plymouth showed promising signs despite the loss. While the performance was encouraging overall, Tijani’s injury cast a shadow over the game for Rooney’s squad, especially with the Championship season in full swing.

In an interview with Plymouth Live, Rooney explained, “Tijani picked up a quite serious one which will probably see him out until the New Year. We are still waiting for full details on that. I’m really disappointed for him because I felt he came on [against Luton] and did well. Once I have more clear information, I can share that.”

Tijani’s absence leaves a significant hole in Plymouth’s attacking line-up. His loan from Czech club Slavia Prague is set to run until the end of the season, but with the injury sidelining him for several months, his recovery location remains uncertain. Tijani may either return to his parent club temporarily for treatment or stay in Devon to continue his rehabilitation.

For the player, this is another unfortunate blow in what has been a challenging loan spell. Having struggled for game time earlier in the season, Tijani had recently been building momentum, featuring in three matches and providing an assist in the club’s draw against Luton Town. His recent form suggested he was becoming a valuable contributor, but this injury disrupts his progress.

Plymouth Argyle are now left with fewer attacking options as they navigate a period of inconsistency in the Championship. With Tijani out, much of the burden will fall on the shoulders of Ryan Hardie and Michael Obafemi, the team’s main forwards. However, with depth already an issue, Argyle may find themselves in a tough position as they seek to maintain their competitiveness in the second tier of English football.

The loss of Tijani couldn’t have come at a worse time for the Pilgrims, who have had a mixed start to the season. While there have been promising moments, such as competitive displays against stronger opposition, the team has struggled to find consistent results. Losing an attacker like Tijani will only complicate Rooney’s plans as he looks to stabilize Plymouth’s form.

Our View

This injury is a significant blow for Plymouth Argyle. Tijani was just beginning to show his potential, offering glimpses of what he could bring to the team. His absence removes a key option from Rooney’s attack, and with limited alternatives available, the team may need to explore the transfer market for a free agent or rely on other players to avoid further setbacks.

While there have been positive signs at Home Park in recent weeks, the Pilgrims could struggle with the loss of depth in a crucial part of the season. The team will need to dig deep to maintain their push in the Championship, and this injury serves as a reminder of the challenges they face.
