Norwich City are exploring a move to bring former captain Russell Martin back to Carrow Road as they begin their search for a new head coach following the dismissal of Liam Manning.
The Championship side parted company with Manning on Saturday after a poor start to the 2025–26 season left them deep in relegation trouble. Norwich currently sit 23rd in the table, above only Sheffield Wednesday, who were handed a 12-point deduction for entering administration.
Martin Considered for Return
Russell Martin spent nearly a decade as a player at Norwich, joining from Peterborough United in November 2009 and going on to make more than 300 appearances. He captained the side during multiple promotions to the Premier League and remains a popular figure among supporters. His knowledge of the club and reputation for developing a possession-based style make him an appealing option as the Canaries consider their next step.
The 39-year-old has been out of work since leaving Rangers last month, having previously managed Swansea City and Southampton. He was dismissed at Ibrox after a difficult spell in Scotland but remains highly regarded in English football circles, with several clubs believed to have monitored his situation in recent weeks.

Sources close to the process indicate that Norwich have held informal discussions with representatives of Russell Martin as they seek a swift appointment to stabilise the team ahead of the busy winter period.
