Lincoln City Braced For Significant Injury Blow

Lincoln City’s Head Coach, Michael Skubala, has revealed that goalkeeper George Wickens will undergo concussion tests following his early exit in the team’s 1-1 draw against Peterborough United yesterday.

The match at the Weston Homes Stadium was a lively affair, with Lincoln taking the lead through Ben House before a spectacular goal from Kwame Poku levelled the score for Peterborough. The draw extended Lincoln’s unbeaten streak on the road to 12 matches, matching a club record.

However, despite the positive result, Lincoln didn’t escape the game unscathed. Wickens was forced off in the second half following what initially seemed to be a minor collision. He received extensive treatment before Zach Jeacock replaced him.

Although concerns were raised about the 22-year-old potentially facing a long spell on the sidelines, Skubala downplayed those worries, emphasizing that tests would clarify if Wickens had suffered a concussion.

“George was shaken up, but he’s doing okay,” Skubala said in a club interview. “He’s now with Kieran Walker (head of medical) and the doctors for tests to rule out a concussion. We’ll monitor him carefully, but the priority is his safety. The results will take a few days, and we’ll ensure he’s fully looked after.”

Wickens, who joined Lincoln on a four-year contract from Fulham in the summer, was signed as the club’s primary goalkeeper following the departure of Lukas Jenson to Millwall for a fee of around £400,000. Wickens has since featured in all five of Lincoln’s league games this season, including a clean sheet in a 1-0 win against Stevenage.

With no midweek fixture, Wickens will have time to rest ahead of Lincoln’s home match against Wigan Athletic next Saturday.

Site Opinion: Goalie Depth

While Wickens’ injury doesn’t seem too severe, Lincoln will be cautious in bringing him back too soon. The team has strong depth in the goalkeeper position, so Skubala has alternatives if Wickens isn’t cleared in time for next weekend.

For Zach Jeacock, this could be an opportunity to prove himself at a higher level. He has started in Lincoln’s cup matches but now has the chance to show his abilities in league play, where the stakes are higher.
