Crawley Town are on the verge of losing manager Scott Lindsey to MK Dons, according to Football Insider.
MK Dons have reportedly reached an agreement with Lindsey to take over as their new manager, following the recent departure of Mike Williamson, who left the club to take charge at League Two side Carlisle United. Williamson, 38, moved on after Carlisle parted ways with club legend Paul Simpson due to a poor start to the season, and now MK Dons have identified 52-year-old Lindsey as the man to steady the ship.
Lindsey’s appointment would mark a significant shift for both clubs. Having built a solid reputation at Crawley Town, Lindsey is seen as a coach on the rise, with a track record that has impressed in recent seasons. After beginning his managerial career in non-league football, Lindsey gained experience as a caretaker at Lincoln City and took on his first permanent role at Chatham Town in 2019. His success there led him to the EFL with Swindon Town, before making his way to Crawley Town, where his managerial skills truly shone.
At Crawley, Lindsey has overseen a remarkable transformation. Taking over in a season where the club was widely tipped for relegation from League Two, he led the Red Devils to an unexpected play-off promotion in 2023-24. This achievement not only confounded critics but also cemented Lindsey’s status as one of the most promising coaches in the lower leagues. Despite a challenging transfer window in the summer, Crawley have continued to exceed expectations in League One, sitting comfortably in mid-table and defying predictions of an immediate return to the fourth tier.
MK Dons, on the other hand, have had a difficult start to their League Two campaign, currently languishing in 17th place. The club is in need of a turnaround, and it appears that the board at Stadium MK believe Lindsey is the man to provide it. His ability to lift underperforming teams and orchestrate promotions has evidently caught their eye, and they will be hoping he can bring similar success to Buckinghamshire.
Should the deal go through, Lindsey will take charge at MK Dons immediately, and fans will be eager to see if he can replicate the kind of success he has enjoyed with Crawley Town. Meanwhile, Crawley will face the challenge of finding a replacement capable of maintaining the positive momentum Lindsey has built.
Our View
For MK Dons, landing Scott Lindsey would be a significant move. His success at Crawley Town, particularly in defying the odds and leading the club to promotion, shows his ability to work wonders with limited resources. His reputation for galvanising squads and exceeding expectations makes him an ideal candidate to turn things around for the Dons, who find themselves struggling in the lower half of League Two.
For Crawley, however, this news will be a bitter pill to swallow. Lindsey has been instrumental in their recent rise, and losing him at this stage of the season could be destabilising. The Red Devils have performed well under his guidance, and it remains to be seen whether the next manager can maintain that momentum or if Crawley will start to slip. Either way, Lindsey’s departure will leave a void that won’t be easy to fill.
