‘Clueless’, ‘Delusional’ – Swindon Town Supporters React To Manager’s Latest Interview

Swindon Town remain perilously close to the League Two relegation zone following a 2-1 defeat to Port Vale, who climbed into the play-off positions with their victory.

The Robins suffered their fourth loss of the season, keeping them in 21st place and just three points clear of the drop. Despite a determined effort, Swindon were unable to prevent Port Vale from extending their unbeaten run to five games and moving up to fifth in the table.

However, the thoughts of head coach Mark Kennedy have drawn the ire of supporters, with the former Lincoln City man labelled ‘the Irish David Brent’, and many supporters calling for him to be sacked.

Port Vale started brightly and dominated much of the first half, but were unable to convert their chances. Swindon goalkeeper Jack Bycroft was in fine form, making several crucial saves, including a notable stop from Jayden Stockley early in the second half. Swindon nearly took the lead against the run of play in the 51st minute, but Aaron Drinan’s low shot struck the post.

Port Vale’s pressure eventually paid off in the 62nd minute when George Byers headed home from a Tom Sang corner. The home side doubled their lead in the 85th minute when Brandon Cover intercepted the ball deep in Swindon’s half and chipped it over Bycroft. A late free-kick goal from captain Will Wright reduced the deficit, but Swindon couldn’t find an equaliser, allowing Vale to take all three points.

Swindon manager Mark Kennedy admitted his team struggled with the physicality of Port Vale, with the Real EFL reporting, “We knew their direct style would cause problems, particularly on set pieces. It was a tough day for us, and the goal we conceded was soft.”

Kennedy also spoke about the squad’s limitations, highlighting the absence of key players. “We’re missing important figures like Grant, Ryan, Harry, and Olly Clark, who is strong in the air. We worked hard, but we lacked bravery with the ball, and that’s disappointing.”

Despite the frustration, Kennedy remained positive about the future. “The players care deeply—one of them was in tears after the game, but he gave everything. We’ll approach the next game with the same determination, and I have complete faith in this group.”

Swindon will face a challenging trip to Tranmere Rovers next, a team just three points ahead of them in the league table. Another defeat, and some of these supporters might be tipped over the edge.
