Cheltenham Town are facing the prospect of being without key defender Ryan Haynes for up to six months due to a serious knee injury.
Haynes, who joined the club from Northampton Town during the summer, had featured in every game this season before being forced off at halftime during the 2-1 defeat to Salford City last weekend. The 28-year-old’s injury comes as a major setback for the Robins, who are already struggling in League Two after a difficult start to the campaign.
Manager Michael Flynn confirmed the severity of Haynes’ injury through the club’s official X account, explaining that the left-back could be sidelined for four to six months. “It’s not looking good,” Flynn said. “Ryan’s looking like he’ll be out for 4-6 months.” Flynn expressed his frustration at the situation, lamenting the club’s misfortune, adding, “Again, it’s completely innocuous and it just seems to be the cards we are getting dealt at the minute.”

Among the new recruits are goalkeeper Joe Day and utility player Scot Bennett, both of whom arrived from Newport County, as well as promising defender Ethan Archer, who was signed from Torquay United. Despite these additions, the loss of Haynes leaves a significant gap in the squad, particularly in the left-back position where Flynn may have to rely on the versatile Bennett to fill in.
