Blackpool head coach Steve Bruce has reinforced the club’s desire to extend Harry Tyrer’s stay at Bloomfield Road after another standout showing by the Everton loanee.
The 23-year-old stopper played a key role in the Seasiders’ 2-0 win away at Northampton Town, earning his 11th clean sheet of the season and pushing Blackpool closer to the League One play-off positions. The game marked Tyrer’s 30th appearance of the campaign – a reflection of the consistency and trust he has earned under Bruce.
Bruce: “We’d like him to stay”
Bruce had already hinted earlier this month that he saw the young goalkeeper as a long-term option. Speaking again after the latest win, he made it clear that the interest remains strong – though he acknowledged that any decision will ultimately involve Everton.
“We’d like him to stay, it’s about whether that’s possible because he’s not ours,” he said.
The former Newcastle and Aston Villa boss was full of praise for the goalkeeper’s progress, pointing out the visible improvements Tyrer has made during his time in Lancashire.
“When we first got him, he hadn’t even played a game in the league,” Bruce said. “It was a big ask for him to come in and perform week in, week out. Fair play to him, he’s worked hard and lost a bit of timber – he wants to be a keeper.”
Tyrer is not the only young loanee thriving under Bruce. The manager also highlighted the growth of players like Elkan Baggott and Odel Offiah, who have stepped up despite limited experience at senior level.
Meanwhile, Tyrer himself has also responded positively to speculation about his future, recently revealing that he would be open to staying at Blackpool if the opportunity arose.
“It’s massive, to hear his words during the week made me and my family very happy,” the goalkeeper said. “It’s up to myself, it’s up to Everton, and it’s up to the club – if all parties are happy then I’m sure I might be back.”
He added: “I’ve loved every single minute of it… It’s a massive club with a massive fan base, and it’s an opportunity I wouldn’t turn down if I had the chance.”

Tyrer’s growth under Bruce has been a success story for both club and player. What started as a loan gamble has become a vital cog in Blackpool’s promotion push. The keeper is clearly settled, motivated, and improving. If Blackpool can get Everton and Tyrer aligned on a permanent deal, they’ll have solved a key position with a long-term solution – and sent another message about their ambition.
