Northampton Town Man ‘Must Raise Levels in Training’ For First Team Return

Kevin Nolan has told Tariqe Fosu that he must raise his level in training if he is to make a return to Northampton Town’s matchday squad.

The 29-year-old winger has missed out on the last two matches, including the draw at Cambridge United and the defeat to Blackpool, despite being a regular starter earlier in the season.

Fosu had started the season brightly after joining on a free transfer, contributing to Town’s early victories against Exeter and Huddersfield. However, a combination of inconsistent form and nagging injuries saw his influence wane. Under Nolan’s leadership, Fosu managed to start seven consecutive games, but with several players now returning from injury, Fosu has found himself left out of the squad for recent games.

Fosu Needs to Show More in Training, Says Nolan

Speaking after the Cambridge draw, Nolan explained why Fosu had not been included in the matchday squad. He made it clear that Fosu’s application in training needs to improve for him to regain his place in the team.

“We’re putting more demands on Tariqe in training and his application has got to be better from my point of view,” said Nolan. “If his attitude and application towards training and doing it right are good, and he shows he wants to be involved, he will be. But at this moment in time, he’s behind the lads who are on the bench, and that’s why he’s not making the squad.”

Fosu’s absence has not gone unnoticed by the Cobblers’ fanbase, but Nolan’s decision is based on a need for players to be in top condition both mentally and physically. As the club gears up for their upcoming fixtures, including a crucial home clash with Rotherham and a derby against Peterborough United, Nolan emphasized the importance of getting the right attitude from every player.

Site Opinion

While Tariqe Fosu has shown glimpses of his potential, it’s clear that Kevin Nolan wants a more consistent and driven approach from him in training. With competition for places intensifying, Fosu’s future in the team now depends on how well he can respond to Nolan’s challenge. If he can raise his standards and impress in training, he could still play a key role in Northampton’s push for survival in League One.
