St Mirren Star on Leyton Orient Radar – Wigan Athletic Also Linked

Caolan Boyd-Munce is attracting serious interest from Leyton Orient as the Northern Ireland midfielder prepares for a decision on his future at the end of the season.

With his current contract at St Mirren set to expire in June, Boyd-Munce could leave for free — a situation not lost on clubs in England. Leyton Orient, currently 9th in League One and chasing a late play-off push, have long admired the 25-year-old and had a bid rejected in January.

Creative spark in demand

Boyd-Munce has impressed in the Scottish Premiership this season, featuring 29 times for the Buddies and contributing five goals and one assist. His versatility and ability to link play in midfield have earned him plaudits north of the border — and interest from several English Football League sides.

Journalist Anthony Joseph confirmed via X that Orient remain “keen” to bring him to Brisbane Road this summer. St Mirren have offered new terms, but the player’s future remains undecided.

The O’s are among a number of clubs monitoring the situation, with Wigan Athletic also previously linked. Orient manager Richie Wellens may view Boyd-Munce as a potential focal point in a reshaped midfield next term.

Journeyman with growing stock

Boyd-Munce’s journey has taken him from youth football in Belfast with Glentoran, through the academy system at Birmingham City and then on to Middlesbrough. During his time in England, he made a handful of senior appearances and gained loan experience before securing more regular football in Scotland with St Mirren in 2023.

Now a full Northern Ireland international with two senior caps, his career appears to be on the cusp of a key move — one that could see him return to the EFL.

Site opinion

This is a smart long-term play from Leyton Orient. Boyd-Munce offers dynamism and vision in midfield, something Orient have lacked in spells this season. With the player’s contract winding down, it’s a potential coup if they can secure him without a fee. Whether they sneak into the play-offs or not, Orient look set to build ambitiously — and this could be the first move of a busy summer.
